Posby Lake, a Heritage Trout Fishery
Nestled in the hills above the North Thompson River is a private lake that holds the legendary fighting Kamloops Trout. Posby Lake was first stocked in 1947 with Kamloops Trout from the Paul Lake Fish Hatchery and has been self sustaining ever since. Shane Baykey is now welcoming fly anglers to enjoy the tranquillity of having a lake to yourself.
Posby Lake is 35 acres with two distinct deep holes surrounded by shoals. There is chara weed, rocky points, reedy fringes, lily pads and structure galore. Every type of trout food is here in abundance, gammarus shrimp, chironomids, damsels, dragons, leeches, bachswimmers and caddis. The holes are 25′ and 35′ deep. There is an inlet with 1000′ of spawning gravel. The trout are truly incredible fighters, no head shakers here. These fish are in the air many times during the battle and never give up until you net them.
